I hope everyone is having a nice week so far. We didn’t get any of that widely anticipated snow here in Massachusetts. That’s probably a good thing because we usually get a lot of snow. I was very happy to not have to shovel or clean off my car this weekend. Still, I do like snow. If we get some, I’d like to do some snowshoeing or something.
Okay, I probably shouldn’t admit this, because nobody would notice anyway, but I am bumming about a mistake I made. In this page, Ben is opening the front door and coming in on the right side of the door, BUT not FIVE pages ago Merrill comes in that same door from the left side. UGH. I had already inked half the panel before I realized that. It’s so easy to make little mistakes of this sort. Heck, I see inconsistencies in movies all the time. I decided not to worry about it because nobody would notice, but here I am telling all of you…
So many interviews, so little sanity left for Petunia. This page was a lot of fun to draw! I am hoping to experiment more with my pages and do some different techniques. For a while I have been playing it pretty safe with layouts, typography, etc. I’m all for unusual techniques in comics that I read, so why not?
Any thoughts about the interviews? Petunia is hiring an assistant. Work has been super busy for her in the past few months, so she’s finally decided to hire some help.
My first full-time job involved a lot of interviewing. It’s weird how much of interviewing seems to be based entirely on character/first-impressions. That makes getting a job pretty hard. I think that’s why so many people get jobs through nepotism. Otherwise, it’s a matter of getting your resume noticed, getting an interview, and then impressing the interviewer. At the end of the day, it’s about the character you present to them after all that. If you have the qualifications they need, if they think you will fit in with the team, and if you seem like a genuinely nice person, that’s probably what will get you the job. Maybe that’s just my experience. I don’t know!
I was always annoyed at the questions you are supposed to ask. More often than not, they’re the same questions you hear at every interview and the answers are always scripted. How are you supposed to choose someone based on questions that have such practiced (and sometimes dishonest) answers? I guess that’s why my fellow interviewers and I judged people based on their character and not as much on their answers. Of course, the answers can show character! However, it’s usually just the same answers you’ve heard a million times. Maybe that means it’s time for interviews to be more creative? That’s what I think.
This comic isn’t an example of an interview I have seen, but I do have a lot of weird interview stories. I remember applicants saying the oddest things. One time someone told me they got in the shower with one of their clients! It was to make them “more comfortable” I guess? They said it with such pride too. I didn’t know what to say. Other people used to say they had problems at home that might make them not able to come into work sometimes. The list goes on…
I hope you enjoy this page. More is coming soon!
There are actually online programs for a Master’s Degree in Parapsychology. I had no idea, but a quick Google search resolved that. Honestly, I think that sounds pretty fun. I’m not sure if they are still reading, but I was contacted by a couple of real paranormal investigators a while ago. If you are reading, hello to you guys! I never intended to be approached in a professional capacity because of this fictional story. Please note, I am not knowledgable in anything other than my own imagination on the subject. Sorry about that 😛
I spent a lot of time thinking about this page and where to go from here. I am not sure if it’s too sudden or if things are happening too quickly, but I’m going for it! This was a potential ending page for the chapter, but I think there is some more to say. My wife pointed out that we need to know what happened to Tinsel. Is he dead? I guess I can’t leave you hanging about that. Stay tuned…
Just a heads up! I am moving next week and over the weekend. It’s also Thanksgiving, which usually means a lot less readers (in my experience). I am going to try to upload a new page on Tuesday, but I will likely need Saturday off and maybe the following Tuesday? Basically, don’t be alarmed if you are expecting a new page at some point within the next week and half and there isn’t one! I promise I won’t be gone long (if at all) and I will upload some juicy new pages for sure!
I think I’ve accidentally made this bathroom door a push and then a pull and then a push again. Maybe it’s both? Either way, these Petunias clearly don’t know how to operate it.
Hey people who read the comic but never comment, I’d love to hear from you! Don’t be afraid to join the conversation. What do you think of the comic? Do you have any advice for me? All thoughts are welcome 🙂
