What do you do when a guy says he wants to have a “ghost night” with you?
Petunia Will Return in January
That’s it! This is the end of Chapter Five and also the end of Part One. It’s always good to end on a cliffhanger 😛
I’m taking a little break because readership is always low around the holidays and I also need some time to work on the print version of Part One (which I will be bringing to conventions)!
Some Things to Look Out for Until Then:
- The print version of book one! (probably featuring extra content and pages)
- I am planning on posting a holiday short featuring Petunia!
- Weekly updates of my other comic Nonsense Thoughts
- New royalty-free music releases by me on Indie Music Box
Petunia will be back soon and I promise that the story is going to get crazy!
Petunia lives in a town right near where I live, in Northampton, Massachusetts. Of course, it’s a fictional version of Northampton, but there are some spots in the comic that are versions of real places. If you are in the area, you should check these out:
- Nickels is supposed to be The Quarters in Hadley, MA
- The Roast is a version of The Roost in Northampton, MA
- Mystic Allegiance is Inspirit Crystals in Northampton, MA
- Mindfulness Cafe is ZEN in Northampton, MA (Now called Oriental Taste?)
- Crank It is Turn it Up in Northampton, MA
- Bartlets is Herrells in Northampton, MA
You may have noticed that I messed with the design of the site over the weekend. I switched it to a three column layout with the comic smaller in the center. I liked it for a few days, thinking that the image would be clearer (unfortunately I have to dumb down the resolution for use on the web – the original scans are 10x as large). After the weekend I decided that I hated it and switched it back! I also added some new stuff to the sidebar, including an ad. The ad is there to hopefully generate a small amount of income that can use to promote the comic using my own ads! I’m not sure if you all care to hear about this stuff. It’s a process 😛
I hope everyone is having a nice week so far. We didn’t get any of that widely anticipated snow here in Massachusetts. That’s probably a good thing because we usually get a lot of snow. I was very happy to not have to shovel or clean off my car this weekend. Still, I do like snow. If we get some, I’d like to do some snowshoeing or something.
Look at Ben’s little smirk. What a goofball. And not at all afraid, I guess? Ben’s been this way since they were kids. Petunia has always been very cautious and thoughtful, while Ben has always been impulsive and not at all worried about getting himself into trouble (especially if he thinks it will be funny). They’re both very used to supernatural stuff, so there’s that too. This is far from their first rodeo. Still, it probably wouldn’t hurt to be a little more cautious, Ben.
A special thanks goes out to a new Patreon supporter, “Sara A” – Thank you so much!
The story is really going to pick up now… Stay tuned.
Also, I just wanted to share a bit about my new Patreon goals. I’ve been cruisin’ at about $30-$40/month (in total donations) for a while now so I changed my donation page to reflect my new goals. If I can get to $50/month in total donations I will have all my art supplies funded, which would be great! I use a ton of pens and paper to make these comics. At $100/month I will also have all my hosting costs and administrative time covered, which would be amazing! That would mean I can make my comics and not feel like I’m eating into my own pocket money. Finally, if I were to reach $150/month I plan on purchasing a new scanner which I think will help the comic a lot! The printer/scanner I have now can only print one page at a time and the scanning sometimes crashes, especially when I try to do high resolution scans. OH, and the scans are usually pretty crappy so I have to go into Photoshop and spend time editing out weird marks on the page and all that 😛
Anyway, if you like the comic or know anyone who likes the comic, I’m not asking for much. I would love to feel like my work is valued and have some support to keep going at full strength. I also changed my donation levels to simply be $1/month or more. I don’t think it’s realistic to expect all of my readers to throw large bills at me every month, but a small tip from the people who care would go a long way. If all my monthly visitors donated $1 per month I would exceed all my goals by a LOT. That said, if you can’t donate, please keep reading. I appreciate all of you no matter what! I sometimes mention money but my real goal and dream is to have lots of people read and enjoy what I make. To those of you who do that already: thank you! 🙂
