Guess what! Tomorrow, Sunday July 24th, is Petunia’s two year anniversary! I started the comic on July 24th, 2014. Hard to believe it’s been two years already.
Hey! I am now selling shirts! They feature the new logo and come in a variety of styles. You can customize your shirt on Zazzle if you’re interested in getting one! I got one already and love it. Thanks for your support!
Again, a big thanks goes out to my friend Kate Lalime for making the new Paranormal Petunia logo 🙂
I am so irritated with myself because I drew this page with the wrong dimensions and had to fix it in Photoshop 😛 I guess I had a major brain fart because I added an extra inch and half to the height of the drawing. I didn’t realize it until I put it in the scanner and it was larger than normal. I don’t know how I managed to do that! Jeez!
This is page 50 of chapter five. Wow! That happened quickly.
I’d like to wish a happy and safe 4th of July weekend to my fellow Americans out there. Hopefully we will still have something to be patriotic about after this autumn’s election. Speaking of which, this page is the most patriotic thing I could come up with. I hope you enjoy it!
I almost didn’t get this page done! My wife has been on a business trip in Texas for the past few days and won’t be coming home until later this week. It’s been really tough because this is the first time we have been apart for this long in years. It’s hard now, but it’s going to be so great to see her in a couple days! At least I have Tinsel to keep me company :-/
Thanks for reading, commenting, and sharing!
Tinsel. His name is TINSEL. This guy has been in my head for soooo long now. It’s great to finally get him on paper. At first I didn’t like him, but… there’s just something about his eyes.
Anyway, I don’t know why I can’t make normal people in this comic! Julian, and now these guys. It’s not like I know people who act like these characters. There must be something in my life experience that brought me to make these characters, but I’m honestly not sure where they come from. I often worry that people will read the comic and assume that I think all guys are weird jerks and that Petunia will eventually be with someone who is like me, the author. I guess I worry about that because I often feel that way when reading other people’s stuff. They make the hero just like them or the love interest just like them! I suppose it’s natural. Regardless, I am trying to make that not the case here. Please know that I put a lot of effort into making the characters very unique.
Still, you have to admit that single people often talk about their dating lives in this way. The characters they meet are often so off-the-wall and incompatible. That’s the horrible reality for many single people isn’t it? Everyone awesome is in a relationship and all the other single people are super weird. Personally I think it seems that way because people want to find 100% compatibility in a person (and they should have high standards). So from that point of view, maybe the Julians, Bryans, Vincents, Justins, and Tinsels are my way of depicting that feeling that people have. When I first came up with the idea of Petunia, that was big. I immediately knew that she would be a perpetually single girl who just can’t seem to find love. I have known a lot of people like that in my life, so I guess that’s where part of Petunia comes from.
Speaking of the weird dates, I am not going to tell you what happened with Justin. You’ll just have to make up your own mind about that one.
Hi all! Date #5 is supposed to be the last date. Petunia’s adventure in Internet dating has not been successful so far and she’s about ready to give up. Hopefully what has happened so far wasn’t what you expected. I don’t think what happens next will be what you are expecting either! Ahgh, I shouldn’t give anything away, sorry.
This has been a lot of fun. I’ve had all these dates planned out (except for the small details) since June. I also have a lot more of the story figured out. I’ve been thinking about it for the past few weeks and writing some new stuff. I hope you like where it goes. I’m anxious to get there! It’s been a challenge keeping things going at this pace. I can only handle drawing two pages a week with my current workload and it seems like the story is moving so slowly. When I read it from the beginning, however, the pace feels pretty good. I guess it’s just hard to sit on these ideas and wait to put them on paper. I haven’t told anyone what is actually going to happen in the story, so it’s exciting and scary.
Thanks so much for reading and please keep telling me your thoughts! It makes my day to see the comments 🙂
Hey everyone! Here’s Saturday’s page. Petunia’s getting ready to meet new people. Expect a lot of interesting new characters soon.
By the way, I tried something new while drawing this strip. I streamed the inking of three panels on the app Periscope. It was fun! A bunch of people tuned in from around the world and I listened to some music while I drew the panels. I think I’ll stream some drawing again soon. If you’re interested in that, the best way to get those updates is via Twitter. So check it out if you’d like!
