If you came back to life hoping that your love would do the same, do you think you would know it was them right away? Julian has been looking for a long, long time. I’m not sure he has the answer.
Is it disorienting not using speech bubbles for every panel? I like mixing it up and, in general, I like NOT using the bubbles. I think that could be confusing though. I’m still trying to decide. I suppose that’s the great thing about comics. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. I have read a ton of different graphic novels that are all fantastic and some of them seem to break all the rules. Honestly, many of my favorites are super indie in feel, sketchy, and (you could probably guess) in black and white. Will I ever dabble in color? The world may never know. Maybe in my next graphic novel or webcomic… I would probably color using watercolor pencils or even traditional watercolor. That would be fun, but a lot of work. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with learning as you go. It’s more important to actually make the work and learn by doing. I don’t care if I have to fail hard to learn hard.
Any thoughts about this page? I spent a long time staring at the script, changing the dialogue. I fear saying too much and revealing too much. Isn’t that the worst? What if every story explained the plot in exhaustive detail? I suppose I could have taken this in the opposite direction though. We’ll see.
Have a great weekend! See you next Tuesday.
Here’s an extra comic today. Thursday isn’t a usual posting day. I often post my other comic, Nonsense Thoughts, on Thursdays. Anyway, I’m trying to finish up three more pages before I leave the country for a week. I have a place in mind to leave off on until I return and start posting again. If all goes well, there will be another page this Friday or Saturday, next Tuesday, and next Thursday. Then I won’t post until after June 23rd. I hope you all will stay with me and keep reading after the break. Who knows, maybe you’re all mad at me because Julian got shot up with arrows. Any thoughts about what is going on? I love hearing predictions. Also, do you think I should have drawn a mustache on the skeleton? Would that have been too much? I’m starting to regret that I didn’t.
See you all soon with another page.
I’m leaving the country on my honeymoon in a few weeks, but I am hoping this chapter will come to an end before I leave. I don’t know if I’ll have time with all the wedding planning to schedule enough posts in advance to not have a brief break while I’m gone. Hrm… But don’t worry. It will only be a week hiatus! I guess I could probably get to the end of the chapter more quickly if I didn’t draw pages with only shots of nature like this one, huh?
Blergh, I have a stomach ache. I am concerned that I have another allergy because this has been happening a lot. Usually it happens when I eat out or at someone else’s house. I am already lactose intolerant and I don’t eat any meat or animal products. Now I am wondering if I have a gluten allergy. It’s hard to pin down, so I may go see a doctor. I really hope it’s not Celiac Disease. If I can’t eat gluten, I will probably only be able to eat vegetables and rice and stuff won’t I? I will miss bread a lot if that’s the case. Oh well. Maybe I will turn into some kind of vegetable superhero.
Thanks for reading guys and girls. I really appreciate it!
I’m back from an adventurous weekend! My brother threw an amazingly nerdy bachelor party in which we saved the world from certain destruction. It involved many clues and mysterious videos. At one point, a cook from the restaurant we were at came out and handed me a locked suitcase, saying “the eagle is in flight!” It was fantastic. We had to go to the Cliff Walk in Newport, RI to solve a handful of riddles that gave us the combination that opened the suitcase. Inside was a USB drive which contained another mysterious video with another riddle. We finally discovered that we needed to beat 500 heroes in battle in Super Smash Brothers before midnight in order to save the world. Needless to say, it was pretty great. I hope to find a way to post the videos for you all to see because they were outstanding!
Anyway, enjoy this comic. Hopefully you weren’t expecting this. Petunia certainly was startled.
Petunia is early this week! I usually post on Saturdays, not Fridays, but I will be out of town tomorrow on some sort of weekend bachelor party shindig that my brother has planned. With all this romance stuff happening in the comic, you might be able to tell that romance is on my mind. My fiancée and I are getting married in one month! My only regret is that Julian can’t officiate the wedding.
I have been hearing some theories and I love it! Keep them coming and don’t be shy. However, if one of you is correct, I won’t say anything and I definitely won’t change the story just because you got it right. I remember George R.R. Martin saying something about that in an interview. He said he would read theories on the Internet and some of them were correct! That being said, I don’t want you to think that someone got it right already because I am fairly confident it is still a mystery.
So, yes, if you’re reading, please comment! Tell me what you think. Tell me your thoughts and emotions. Tell me your opinions about Julian’s mustache. Tell me who you think Petunia should date. Tell me what you hope will happen. Tell me your most private secrets.
I tried drawing in public the other day! I am usually too shy to do so, but it felt great. A friend joined me, so that made it easier. I think it’s a good thing to do as an exercise in confidence and comfort while drawing. Oddly enough, it seemed to take the edge off. Because I was in a different environment, I wasn’t over-thinking every gesture and line. It made the process a little more natural, being in an unnatural environment. I have no idea if that makes sense to anyone else, but it makes sense to me. I may try to do it again next week.
I hope you like this page! It was a blast to draw. No spoilers, but we are getting to the end of the chapter…
