Look at Ben’s little smirk. What a goofball. And not at all afraid, I guess? Ben’s been this way since they were kids. Petunia has always been very cautious and thoughtful, while Ben has always been impulsive and not at all worried about getting himself into trouble (especially if he thinks it will be funny). They’re both very used to supernatural stuff, so there’s that too. This is far from their first rodeo. Still, it probably wouldn’t hurt to be a little more cautious, Ben.

My first full-time job involved a lot of interviewing. It’s weird how much of interviewing seems to be based entirely on character/first-impressions. That makes getting a job pretty hard. I think that’s why so many people get jobs through nepotism. Otherwise, it’s a matter of getting your resume noticed, getting an interview, and then impressing the interviewer. At the end of the day, it’s about the character you present to them after all that. If you have the qualifications they need, if they think you will fit in with the team, and if you seem like a genuinely nice person, that’s probably what will get you the job. Maybe that’s just my experience. I don’t know!

I was always annoyed at the questions you are supposed to ask. More often than not, they’re the same questions you hear at every interview and the answers are always scripted. How are you supposed to choose someone based on questions that have such practiced (and sometimes dishonest) answers? I guess that’s why my fellow interviewers and I judged people based on their character and not as much on their answers. Of course, the answers can show character! However, it’s usually just the same answers you’ve heard a million times. Maybe that means it’s time for interviews to be more creative? That’s what I think.

This comic isn’t an example of an interview I have seen, but I do have a lot of weird interview stories. I remember applicants saying the oddest things. One time someone told me they got in the shower with one of their clients! It was to make them “more comfortable” I guess? They said it with such pride too. I didn’t know what to say. Other people used to say they had problems at home that might make them not able to come into work sometimes. The list goes on…

I hope you enjoy this page. More is coming soon!
